star-crossed

Stella lay there still, in one of the large craters that covered her home. On her back, she could look up at the stars whenever she wanted and talk to them as she pleased. They talked back a lot, giggling at her jokes, or telling her to “shh”. She watched them twinkling at each other in their own language that she could never understand. “I want to be with you.” She whispered under her breath. She pulled herself up onto the edge of the crater. She looked down at the earth, watching its rotation. She leaned over further to see the different continents more clearly. She lost her grip suddenly and fell off the edge of the small planet. Its gravitational pull caught her, and she began to float around it at a slow pace. “Dangit, I’m in orbit again.”
